Phils 1st Round pick is the 10th in the June 2015 MLB Draft
With recent free agent signings, the MLB Draft order has been officially updated. The Phillies own 1st Round selection remains in the 10th overall position.
The Phillies will be selecting 10th, 48th, and 82nd through the first 3 rounds. From the 4th through 40th rounds, the Phillies will be selecting in the 8th position each round.
Overall positioning of NL East rivals in the first 3 rounds:
Marlins: 12, 50, 84
Braves: 15, 30, 54, 88
Mets: 53, 87
Nationals: 27, 58, 68
The Mets lost their 1st Round pick, which would have been
the 15th overall selection, with the signing of FA outfielder Michael Cuddyer.
The Braves gained the 30th overall pick with the Twins signing of FA pitcher Ervin Santana.
The Nats were awarded the 58th pick after failing to sign 2014 draftee Andrew Suarez.
This will mark the 2nd consecutive season that the Phillies are picking in the MLB Draft top 10. Last year the club selected RHP Aaron Nola, a college pitcher out of LSU, with the 7th overall selection.
The Phillies 2013 selection in the 1st Round came at #16 overall. That selection, Florida HS shortstop J.P. Crawford, is now one of the club’s top-rated prospects and considered a longterm heir apparent to recently traded Jimmy Rollins.
Next week on Christmas Day, TBOH will be releasing our Top 20 Phillies prospects, and both Nola and Crawford are sure to figure prominently near the top of that ranking.
